What is the Purpose of Your Driving Test?
The driving test is designed to establish whether you:
• know the Rules of the Road;
• have the knowledge and skill to drive competently in accordance with those rules;
• drive with due regard for the safety and convenience of other road users.

Where to apply

Driver Testing Section
Department of Transport,
Government Buildings,

Co. Mayo.

You may apply by posting a completed form to the address above with a cheque or Postal Order, made payable to the Minister for Transport.

You may also contact the Department by telephone, for the cost of a local call, by dialling 1890 40 60 40.

Driver Testing Section may also be contacted by e-mail. You should check that the information sought is not contained elsewhere in this website as your questions may already be answered. Please quote the test centre applied for, your date of birth and reference number, if known, in your e-mail. E-mail should be addressed to drivingtest@environ.irlgov.ie.
