ROAD USERS AND THE GARDAI
The Gardai are responsible for enforcing road traffic law and all signals given by them must be obeyed. Where a Garda is controlling traffic, his signals, illustrated on this page, override all other traffic signals.
In addition it should be noted that, at any time, when requested to do so by a Garda you must:
• Stop your vehicle and allow him to inspect and examine it for defects,
• Give your name and address,
• Produce your driving licence and certificate of insurance to him or, within 10 days, at a Garda Station of your choice,
• Produce the vehicle registration book at any reasonable time,
• Give a specimen of your breath,
• Write out your signature,
• If arrested for an offence related to alcohol and driving or for refusing to give a specimen of breath, you must provide a specimen of breath and/or blood or urine at a Garda Station. (See also requirements to report accidents to the Gardai in Part 7).
