As a general rule a driver must not put a pedestrian at risk. In particular you must yield right of way to pedestrians -
• on a zebra crossing,
• on a pelican crossing when the amber light is flashing,
• crossing the road if you are moving off from a stationary position,
• at a junction if they have commenced crossing the road.

The driver should be watchful for pedestrians (especially children) who may attempt to cross the roadway suddenly from between parked vehicles. Always make special allowance for children, the elderly and those who are infirm or disabled. Particular care should be taken when approaching school entrances.
