Regulatory signs are used to indicate the requirements of road traffic law (including traffic and parking bye-laws). Accordingly, they must be obeyed. They can generally be placed in three distinct groups:

• UPRIGHT SIGNS
These usually comprise black symbols/letters/numbers on a white background and a red surround and can be either circular, octagonal or triangular (inverted). Examples are shown below.
