What are driving simulators?
Simulation driving provides an interactive off-road environment in which drivers may develop their skills in operating an automobile. Sitting in a conventional cabin layout, with all the instruments and controls of a real car, the student must negotiate driving situations, which are displayed on three high resolution computer screens.
The simulator records every aspect of the driver's performance from the moment the car is started, and the resulting telemetry may be used to highlight and correct flaws in the student's driving habits. The unit also allows for assessing the individual student's progress from their first lesson by recording each of their lessons in its memory.
Why are they needed?
Even a cursory glance at the statistics for road fatalities will highlight the need to readdress the manner in which young people develop their driving skills. Introducing potential motorists to the concepts and skills of driving through a medium which provides all the neccessary sensory and mechanical aspects of real driving, but without the accompanying dangers is an alternative which should be considered.
Who will benefit?
As the simulator requires no prior driving knowledge or experience, it is ideal for the training of absoloute begineer motorists. One potential step towards achieving this goal would be the introduction of a driver's education program into the secondary school system.
By investing in the simulator, government organisations, educational establishments, driving schools etc., can save citizens from the costs and dangers of reckless driving.
